Gary worked most recently at Badminton England, and has an extensive career in sport, including in senior positions at Cambridge United FC.
The BBL Foundation's Vice Chairman Kevin Routledge said, "We are tremendously excited about Gary joining the Foundation. He will bring a wealth of experience and drive, and was the outstanding candidate for the position, from our recruitment process. There is a huge opportunity for the BBL Foundation to deliver new community grass roots basketball programmes, and I am absolutely certain Gary has the right experience and skills to make this happen."
Gary Atyes said, "I am really thrilled by the prospect of being able to lead the BBL Foundation at such an important stage in its development, coming straight after London 2012. There has never been a better time to develop and deliver the Foundations key objectives, building on the positive momentum that Basketball has gained from the Olympic Games."
"The BBL Foundation can be a key driver in helping deliver the legacy aspects of the Games for the sport, with a particular focus on children and young adults. I look forward to helping the BBL clubs build on their already impressive community programmes by forming a broad range of strategic partnerships to help bring greater investment, visibility and added value to the development of their work and the Foundation."
